An RP Speaker's Guide: Want to Sound Nonchalant?

It's nonchalant. Nonchalant. It's light and breezy, as if you could care less, which is the point of RP. Now, its meaning is calm, relaxed, unconcerned, usually in situations when others may be flapping around like started pigeons.

"She gave a nonchalant shrug when asked about her perfect pronunciation."

"Despite the chaos around him, he remained completely nonchalant." "He

nonchalantly corrected his friend's pronunciation."

So, say it slowly at first. Non-sha-lant. You could also add a casual shrug for the full effect to nonchalant. RP speakers often use words like nonchalant to sound elegant and understated. And if you say correctly, you sound more sophisticated and slightly mysterious.

Have a good day. Bye. Do it nonchalantly.
